FencelineData.org provides facility-level information about environmental violations and toxic-chemical and greenhouse-gas pollution at 21,000 facilities that report to the U.S. EPA.
This project of DataKind, Until Justice Data Partners, Material Research L3C and Public Health Watch, represents a major advance in data accessibility: it makes multiple federal databases available in one place, allowing users to avoid government websites that can be difficult to navigate. Launched in April 2024.
In collaboration with Coming Clean, the Prevent Chemical Disasters site tracks toxic chemical incidents in the U.S. Updated frequently. More than 350,000 views since 2023. Routinely cited in press.
"Nongeeks will love that this tracker presents its data in interactive map form; geeks will love that you can access the underlying data in table form."
- Global Investigative Journalism Network
Sponsored by Earthjustice, League of Conservation Voters, Coming Clean, and Greenpeace USA.
It can be difficult to find reliable information on plastics plants’ production capacities. This information is often kept private by manufacturing companies, stuck behind trade publication paywalls, or is otherwise difficult to find.
To help fill this information gap, the Environmental Integrity Project and Material Research developed an inventory of production capacities for plastics plants across the United States.
